Before the Shoot: The Recce Day

What's a Recce?

A Recce (or recce day) is an essential pre-shoot visit where the production team comes to view your property. Think of it as a friendly planning meeting where everyone can get on the same page!

During the Recce, you'll:

- Meet the production team
- Walk through your space together
- Discuss any specific requirements
- Talk about furniture movement (if needed)
- Agree on equipment placement
- Discuss any overnight storage needs
- Share any house rules or preferences
- Address any concerns you might have

This is your perfect opportunity to chat about what you're comfortable with and set clear expectations before shoot day. Everything from moving furniture to overnight equipment storage can be agreed upon during this visit.

Getting Ready for Shoot Day

Making Your Home 'Shoot Ready'
Just like when you're expecting special guests, your home should be clean, tidy, and looking its best when the crew arrives. Think of it as getting ready for its close-up!

Your Welcome Role
You'll be there to:
- Greet the crew with a warm welcome
- Show them around your beautiful space
- Share those important bits and pieces (like WiFi passwords)
- Point out practical essentials (fuse box, water mains, etc.)

Good to Know
- The crew might ask about moving furniture or leaving equipment overnight - this is entirely up to you to decide what you're comfortable with
- If you're happy for furniture to be moved, they'll treat everything with the utmost care
- Feel free to let them know if certain items are precious or shouldn't be moved
- Got a favorite vase or family photos? It's a good idea to pop these somewhere safe before the shoot

During the Shoot

Your Presence
You'll need to be at the property at two key times:
- At the start of the day to welcome the crew and do the initial walk-through
- At the end of the day for the final check before the crew leaves

Once you've done the morning welcome and walk-through, it's best to leave the crew to work without interruption. They'll be busy with equipment, lighting, and creating their magic - and they're professionals who do this every day!

While you don't need to be at the property during the shoot itself, we do recommend staying local in case of any urgent questions or unexpected situations. The crew will be focused on their work, and they usually prefer to have the space to themselves to maintain their creative flow.

If you do prefer to stay at the property (it is your home, after all!), most crews find it easier to focus on their work without others present. Having extra people around can sometimes slow down their creative process or make it tricky when moving equipment and setting up shots.

The Welcome (Morning)
You'll be there to:
- Greet the crew
- Show them around
- Share essential information (WiFi, facilities, etc.)
- Hand over any parking permits
- Answer any final questions

Then simply leave them to it!

The Wrap (End of Day)
You'll return to:
- Do a final walk-through
- Check everything's back in place
- Sign off on the day
- Lock up and say goodbye!

Property Protection

Insurance
All shoot production teams must have:
- Public liability insurance (minimum €5,000,000)
- Property damage coverage
- Certificates verified before shoot day

But if you are looking to hire your location out long term we would also recommend you take out your own public liability insurance, it is a small cost for extra security.

Payment and Fees

- Clear day rates are agreed in advance
- Overtime charged at €250 per hour
- 15-20 minute grace period at end of day
- Full payment from production team is required before shoot day
- Your income may need to be declared for tax purposes (consult your tax advisor)

Legal Requirements

For standard photo shoots and short-term filming (less than a month), no special license is required. However, if your property will be used for large-scale productions like reality shows that require extensive setup (such as base camps or significant power installations), permits may be needed. We'll advise if any specific project requires additional permissions.
